One person hurt as quakes hit southwestern Turkey

ANKARA, Jan 11 (AFP) - One person was reported injured as two earthquakes, one of them registering at 5.1 on the open-ended Richter scale, shook parts of southwestern Turkey in the early hours of Tuesday, the Anatolia news agency said.
There were no reports of major damage, but in the town of Milas, near where the first quake hit at 1:48 am (2348 GMT), a resident panicked and jumped off the balcony of his apartment, suffering minor injuries.
The second quake was centred nearby in the Gulf of Gokova, and measured 4.7 on the Richter scale, the agency said.
Both locations are in Mugla province, which borders the southern Aegean Sea.
The region is prone to frequent earthquakes.
