Bush appoints Allan Hubbard as top economic adviser

WASHINGTON, Jan 10 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush appointed Harvard University classmate and businessman Allan Hubbard to be his top economic adviser, White House spokesman Scott McClellan announced Monday.
Hubbard replaces Stephen Friedman, who resigned in November.
Hubbard was CEO of E and A Industries, in the midwestern state of Indiana. Earlier he was assistant chief of staff for Dan Quayle, vice president to Bush's father, president George Bush (1989-1993).
Hubbard and his wife Kathy are also known to have heavily contributed to Bush's presidential campaigns in 2002 and 2004.
Hubbard's appointment does not require confirmation by the US Senate.
