US Marine killed in western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Jan 10 (AFP) - A US Marine was killed in action on Sunday while conducting security and stability operations in the restive Al-Anbar province in western Iraq, the army said in a statement.
The US army statement, released Monday, gave no details of the deceased "pending next of kin notification".
Anbar includes the towns of Fallujah and Ramadi, west of Baghdad, where troops continue to face resistance from pockets of the insurgency even after a massive assault on Fallujah in November.
