Sudanese rebel group to free 750 POWs after peace deal: SUNA

KHARTOUM, Jan 6 (AFP) - The Sudan People's Liberation Movement will release 750 prisoners of war next week, following the signing of a peace deal with the government, State Foreign Minister Naguib al-Khair Abdel Wahab said Thursday.
Abdel Wahab, quoted by the official SUNA news agency, said the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross office in Khartoum told him the SPLM had communicated the planned move to it.
The government and the SPLM are due to sign a peace agreement in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Sunday, ending two decades of civil war.
Abdel Wahab said the ICRC would provide the the names of the POWs to be released so that the government could inform their families.
He commended the gesture, which he said "demonstrates the movement's intention of implementing the peace agreement."
