Turkish police confiscated nearly 21 kilograms of plastic explosives in the southern province of Adana on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, anti-smuggling teams waged an operation to a house in Adana to seize illicit drugs, but instead they found A-4 plastic explosives that belonged to terrorist organization PKK, said a statement from the Governor's Office of Adana.
Two people were detained in the operation, officials said.
Commenting on the operation, Adana Police Department's head Salih Kesmez said that the explosives were going to be used in terrorist attacks to be waged in Turkey's major cities.
Police forces would be the main target of the attacks, he noted.
Kesmez also said that the damage to be caused by the seized explosives would be 5 times bigger than the impact of the terrorist attack waged in front of a shopping mall in capital Ankara's Ulus neighborhood in 2007.
A suicide bomber blew himself up near a bus stop in front of the busy Anafartalar Shopping Mall on May 22nd, 2007.
Nine people, including the bomber, died in the attack as nearly 100 people were wounded and numerous shops in the neighborhood were heavily damaged.
