Istanbul Municipality's Aid Team Helping South Asian Quake Survivors

ISTANBUL (AA) - Aid team of the Istanbul Municipality has started to extend a helping hand to the survivors of the massive earthquake and tsunami waves triggered by the quake in South Asia, the Istanbul Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) said on Wednesday.
     AKOM stated that aid team of the Istanbul Municipality comprised of 8 people including Emergency Aid and Rescue Director Mehmet Yildirim had launched initiatives to list the needs in the disaster zone.
     Istanbul Municipality was preparing basic needs like bread, mobile bread factory, water refinement devices, and medical equipment, AKOM noted.
     AKOM added that the team currently in the disaster zone would inform Turkish Red Crescent and Istanbul Municipality about how the aid would be extended to quake survivors and what the emergency needs of the quake survivors were.
     On the other hand, school unions in Istanbul are extending support to aid campaigns launched throughout Turkey for the quake and tsunami-survivors. 550 New Turkish Lira (YTL) was collected on the first day of the campaign which will last till January 7th.
     Meanwhile, Governor's Office of northwestern city of Kocaeli also launched an aid campaign for the survivors of South Asian quake. Aid will be collected in bank accounts opened in Vakiflar Bankasi, Ziraat Bankasi, Oyakbank and Akbank.
