NEVSEHIR (AA) - 246 documentaries and films have been shot by more than 100 television channels of 44 countries in Cappadocia region of Turkey in 13 years, Governor's Office of central city of Nevsehir said on Tuesday.
The Governor's Office told A.A correspondent that 19 state-run or private television channels from 12 countries visited Cappadocia, a unique region in the world, in 2004 to shoot 308 documentaries and films upon the permission of Turkish Foreign Ministry and Culture & Tourism Ministry.
52 television channels from Japan, 32 from France, 22 from Germany, 20 from the United States, 19 from Britain, 17 from Italy,, 10 each from South Korea and Spain, 4 each from Russia and the Netherlands, three each from Austria, Greece, Thailand, Belgium, United Arab Emirates and New Zealand, two each from Switzerland, Canada, Taiwan, Romania, Georgia, Denmark, Australia, China and Switzerland, and one each from Sweden, Estonia, Malaysia, Slovakia, Moldova, Czech Republic, the Philippines, Brazil, Iceland, Argentine, Singapore, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Finland, Bulgaria and Poland showed cultural heritage and natural beauties of Cappadocia in 246 documentaries and films shot between 1991 and 2004.
Also, two films, including ''Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran'' in which Omar Sharif was the leading actor, and ''Wolf Emperor'' of Jean Reno, have been shot in this region.
These films have contributed to promotion of this region, Nazif Demir, the Secretary General of Cappadocia Touristic Facilities Association (KAPTID), said.
Demir added, ''as tourism employees, we lay the groundwork for shooting of every kind of documentaries and films in our region, and we support such initiatives.''
