Turkish Red Crescent Due To Disaster Zone In Southern Asia

ANKARA (AA) - A group of Turkish Red Crescent will go to southern Asia later today (Monday) to extend humanitarian aid to the quake and tsunami-stricken areas, Turkish Red Crescent Chairmanship said.
     The Red Crescent Chairmanship stated that the group comprised of 11 experts and two volunteers would undertake the responsibility of a village in every quake-hit south Asian country, and extend nutrition and health assistance to 500 families and 2,500 quake and tsunami survivors.
     The group will fly to Thai capital of Bangkok at 11.10 p.m. this evening, and then proceed to Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
     Members of Turkish Red Crescent will extend emergency aid for the first two months, and extend rehabilitation efforts in the following three months and work to heal the wounds in the quake zone.
     Turkish Red Crescent officials will contact international organizations like the United Nations (UN), the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) after they reach the region, and continue extending monetary and rehabilitation assistance to the quake survivors in the medium and long term.
