Turkish Special Search & Rescue Team To Go To Sri Lanka

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish special search and rescue team GEA, formed under the auspices of New Yuksektepe Cultural Association, will extend medical assistance to quake and tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka.
     Ozgur Bozoglu, the chief of the team, told a press conference that a group of GEA had earlier gone to Sri Lanka immediately after the quake and tsunami disaster in South Asia to join search and rescue efforts, and said that they would go to the region again for 15 days to extend medical assistance to the quake zone which was facing cholera outbreak.
     Bozoglu added, ''relief efforts should be continued, and medical assistance should be extended to prevent a rise in death toll in Sri Lanka from now on.''
     The new GEA team comprised of four doctors, five health officials and/or nurses, one dentist, one biologist-parasitologist, one agricultural engineer, one pharmacist, one communication expert, and one industrial engineer, will go to Sri Lanka on Thursday.
