ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul Monday called on Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries to extend maximum assistance to the quake and tsunami-stricken areas in South Asia.
     Gul, in the message he sent to the foreign ministers of OIC member countries under the title of the current president of the Foreign Ministers Conference, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property in Asian and African countries due to massive earthquake and tsunami.
     In his message, Gul recalled that OIC Acting President Malaysia and some OIC member countries were very affected by the disaster, and drew attention that it was OIC`s message to improve solidarity among member countries.
     Gul stated that Turkey supported OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu`s call to member countries, asking them to extend urgent assistance to the quake zone, and also asked the OIC members to extend maximum assistance to these countries.
