ANKARA (AA) - Turkey believes that Ukraine will maintain its progress under the democratic principles through dialogue and political compromise after the presidential elections.
Releasing a written statement on Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, ''we have been monitoring all developments about the presidential elections in Ukraine. Turkey welcomes efforts to overcome the tension in Ukraine with a productive approach and common-sense under the democratic principles.''
''Turkey thinks that holding the second round of the presidential elections on December 26th in a tranquil and transparent atmosphere and in line with the international standards constituted a positive step in the process of democratization and consolidation of supremacy of law in Ukraine,'' the ministry said.
Highlighting importance of stable and democratic Ukraine for peace and security of the region, the ministry added, ''Turkey believes that Ukraine will maintain its progress under the democratic principles through dialogue and political compromise after the presidential elections. Also, Turkey believes that Turkey's improving relations with Ukraine will further deepen during the new president's term in office, making valuable contributions to peace and stability in the region.''
