Turkey increases aid amount to southern Asia to USD 1.2 million

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey increased the aid amount for south of Asia after Sunday`s earthquake and tsunami disaster.
     Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that Turkey earlier decided to send aid worth of 1 million U.S. dollars to south of Asia, but then Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan considered to increase the amount to 1 million 250 thousand U.S. dollars.
     The distribution of aid which Turkey will send is as follows:
     ``600,000 U.S. dollars to Indonesia, 350,000 U.S. dollars to Sri Lanka, 125,000 U.S. dollars to Thailand, 100,000 U.S. dollars to Maldives and 75,000 U.S. dollars to Malaysia.``
     The aid is transferred to these countries today.
     ``We exert efforts to meet the demands of urgent medicine and medical equipment aid of victims of disaster,`` said the Ministry.
     ``Red Crescent Directorate General is also envisioned to make financial aid to these countries. Two search and rescue teams are still pursuing their activities in the region,`` noted the Ministry.
