ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish central bank will closely monitor the beginning of the use of the new Turkish lira (YTL) banknotes on January 1 with a team of 15 experts.
According to central bank sources, the Monitoring Center will be connected to all banks in Turkey via online system and will assist any bank that may experience difficulty. The banks will be able to reach the center through telephone or e-mail.
Here are short information on several bank's preparations to welcome the new Turkish lira:
-ZIRAAT BANKASI-
All Ziraat Bankasi ATMs will be unavailable for use between 23.30 on December 31 and 00.30 on January 1. Those clients wishing to use POS machines will have to wait for 20 minutes. Bank customers wishing to withdraw YTL banknotes would be able to do so after mid-night on January 1.
-IS BANKASI-
All credit card transactions, use of POS machines, cash withdrawals will stop for about 20 minutes, as of 23.50 on December 31 till 00.10 on January 1.
-YAPI KREDI-
Yapi Kredi customers will have to wait for a period of four hours for bank transactions during the early hours of January 1. Credit card related services will stop for about one hour.
-VAKIFBANK-
All Vakifbank ATM, internet, telephone and POS related services will temporarily stop for about 30 minutes, between 00.01 and 00.30 on January 1. Vakifbank customers will be able to withdraw YTL banknotes from more than 200 ATMs throughout Turkey. Vakifbank has nearly 40 ATMs in Ankara.
