13 US soldiers among 22 killed in Mosul: Myers

WASHINGTON, Dec 22 (AFP) - Thirteen US soldiers were among the 22 people killed in the apparent suicide attack on a US army dining hall in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Richard Myers said Wednesday.
The death toll included 13 US military, five US civilian contractors, three Iraqi security force members, and one non-US person, Myers told reporters here.
"An additional 69 people were injured in the attack including 44 US military, seven US contractors, five Department of Defense civilians, two Iraqi civilians, 10 contractors of other nationalities, and one of unknown nationality and occupation," he added.
Earlier casualty lists said 14 of the dead were military personnel and five were US civilian contractors, with 72 people wounded.
Many of the wounded are being taken to Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany, Myers said.
The source of the blast appeared to come from "an improvised explosive device worn by an attacker," Myers added.
The attack was the deadliest single strike against Americans in Iraq.
