Containing details of a deal which Tehran agreed to give up some of its enriched uranium with the meditation of Turkey and Brazil last Monday in Iran, the letter handed over to International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Yukiya Amano by Iranian nuclear programme chief Ali Akbar Salehi at a 45-minute meeting in Vienna, on Monday.
During the meeting in Vienna, Turkey's UN permanent representative at the Vienna office Mr. Tomur Bayer and Brazil's permanent representative Ambassador Antonio Jose Vallim Guerreiro were also present.
The deal has been welcomed in the region. Syrian President Bashar Assad said the deal is a great opportunity to keep away the countries in the region as well as the whole world from conflicts likely to drag them into a disaster.
However, Western powers primarily the US found the deal a late-solution to the problem. Just the day after Iran signed the deal, the US announced they would summit to the UNSC a draft of broader sanctions against the Islamic state. Hence, the American state claimed that Russia and China backed their stance.
Meanwhile, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said the letter "will be the beginning of more detailed negotiations on the fuel swap through the signing of a written agreement".
"We expect that the agency will let the Vienna Group know the contents of this letter and reflect a positive response of the Vienna Group to us," the letter said, according to Fars.
