ANKARA - Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said Wednesday that Turkey would go on its path with own anchors instead of IMF, underlining that absence of a stand by agreement did not mean Turkey's financial administration would let loose.
Simsek told HTBloomberg TV that Turkey would establish its own anchors, noting that the government's efforts to introduce the fiscal rule under the midterm program was significant in this respect.
"Therefore, what matters is performance. Markets and local and foreign investors will take into account your statements only up to a certain point, then they will look at your performance," said Simsek.
Simsek said one of the most important problems of Turkey was "grey economy" noting that the government would make the tax auditing more strict.
Mehmet Simsek said they were hopeful about privatization works for this year noting that the government made considerable progress for privatization of electric distribution . He added that works towards privatization of electric production entered the last stage.
"We expect this year's privatization performance to be good," said Simsek. (OZG-CE)
