ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "we will mature the reform package which we are planning to submit to the parliament by the end of the month, by holding talks with both parliamentary and non-parliamentary circles."
Erdogan said at parliamentary group meeting of his Justice & Development (AK) Party, "we have been working on constitutional amendment and judicial reform for a long time. Now, we want to complete these works. We are going to submit a reform package to the parliament by the end of this month. We will mature the package by listening to views of both parliamentary and non-parliamentary circles. In the end, the package will add momentum to Turkey's adjustment process with the European Union."
"We will seek compromise and dialogue in this process. But there is no need to try to talk to those who have already closed their doors," he said.
Referring to the voting at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs on the resolution recognizing the events of 1915 as "genocide" on March 4, Erdogan said, "I hope that members of the U.S. House of Representatives will act reasonably about a matter, which should be actually dealt by historians. Turkey-USA cooperation has reached its most successful era in its history. I hope that such attempts will not damage this cooperation. I rely on leadership and foresight of President Barack Obama."
