GM to invest 450 million in two US plants, guaranteeing 3,300 US jobs

DETROIT, Michigan, Dec 16 (AFP) - General Motors Corp. on Thursday said it plans to pump 450 million dollars in two US plants that build two of its best-selling pick-up trucks, and an advanced V-6 engine.
The bulk of the cash, 300 million dollars, has been earmarked for a Flint, Michigan plant that makes GM's advanced global V-6 engine. The automaker expects to begin work on expanding the facility in the next few months.
The remaining 150 million dollars will pay for the refurbishment and updating of GM's Flint truck assembly plant that produces the heavy-duty cab version of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups.
The investment will save 3,000 jobs and create 300 new ones in the economically depressed Flint area, which is northwest of Detroit.
