ROME, Dec 11 (AFP) - A top Mafia suspect was gunned down in a Naples street early Saturday in the latest incident linked to a turf war which has killed more than 120 people in the southern Italian port, police said.
Police said the victim, Francesco Alfieri, 54, was the brother of former Camorra boss Carmine Alfieri who turned state's evidence after his arrest in 1993.
Francesco Alfieri was gunned down in a Naples suburb by two men who approached on a motorcycle as he was getting out of his car near a cafe, the police said.
The clan boss' son was shot dead in a similar incident two years ago.
The killing is the latest in a spate of murders which investigators have blamed on an internecine battle between rival clans of the Camorra, the Naples' mafia.
It is the first since 53 Camorra figures were arrested in police raids ordered by Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu last Tuesday.
Hundreds of armed police reinforcements were deployed in the southern port city last month after a national outcry over the violence, which investigators say is linked to a battle for control of the local drugs trade.
