Yemen reinforces its units in two mountainous regions to combat Al-Qaeda.

Officials said that several hundred extra troops have been deployed on two regions that are Al-Qaeda's main strongholds in the country.

The reinforcement aims at fortifying the military presence in the region where the government has little control.

Omar Farouk Abdulmuttalab, who attempted to attack a US airplane at Christmas, was suspected to visit Marif and Jouf regions. US President Barack Obama had pointed Al-Qaeda's extension in Yemen as the plotter of the attack.

Meanwhile, the United States has closed down its Embassy in Yemen in response to ongoing Al-Qaeda threats to attack American interests in the Arabian Peninsula country.
