The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) announced on Wednesday that Abbas will be staying in office until further notice.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose term will end on January 25, had said that he will not run another term for the presidency but stay on until elections held.

However, no date has been set for a future election.

The Central Council also announced that there will be no resumption of peace talks with Israel until a full halt to its settlement building in the occupied West Bank.

Abbas replaced Yasser Arafat as head of the PLO and the Palestinian Authority after his death in 2004.
