GAZA- Israel on Tuesday threatened Britain that it will not play an active role in the peace process in the Middle East if it does not take measures to prevent the prosecution of Israeli officials by British courts.
The threat came from the Israeli Foreign Ministry of Minister Avigdor Lieberman, after the announcement of calling off Israel`s former foreign minister and opposition leader Tzipi Livni visit to London scheduled for the end of the week, after a British court charged her with responsibility for "war crimes".
The ministry statement said "Israel rejects the biased judicial proceedings carried out by a British court against Tzipi Livni, the initiative of the extremists elements," referring to British lawyers, who asked to issue an arrest against Livni.
The statement called on the British government to "respect its commitment not to allow the exploitation of the British judicial system by anti-Israel members," warning at the same time that "the absence of a firm and immediate action to end this situation will actually undermine relations between the two countries."
