President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias met yesterday afternoon again for 2 hours, for further discussions on the chapter of `Governance and Power Sharing`.
Leaders in Cyprus are continuing their talks within the framework of the negotiation process launched in September last year.
The meeting between the two leaders started at 4.00 o'clock at the building allocated for the talks in the United Nations controlled buffer zone.
UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer made short statement after the meeting.
Downer said that successful meetings have been realized and good steps have been taken until today.
UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer being asked about the visit of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to Cyprus said that this was not clear yet. He added that he met the Secretary General last week and he explained the details of negotiations to him.
TALAT : "WE CHARGED OUR REPRESENTATIVES WITH THE DUTY OF PLANNING FUTURE MEETINGS"
President Talat recorded that at the meeting they had with the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitirs Christofias they charged their representatives with the duty of planning future meetings. He added that they were going to finalize this matter at the meeting next week.
Indicating that they exchanged views related to "Governance and power sharing" Talat added that representatives were assigned to plan these issues and the issue of economy.
TALAT RECEIVED DOWNER
UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer has been received by President Mehmet Ali Talat.
The UN Envoy told reporters while leaving the Presidential Palace that this time, the international community expects the Cyprus talks to yield positive results.
Speaking after his meeting with President Talat, the UN Envoy stated that the international community is expecting the Cyprus negotiations process to yield a positive outcome.
Mr Downer said details of today's round of negotiations between the two leaders were discussed during the meeting.
Explaining that he had discussions with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in New York, the UN official said he shared the impressions he got during these talks with President Talat.
"I have got the impression that the international community expects the continuing talks to yield a positive outcome` he said, adding that there is a great expectation that the leaders will finalize the negotiations with success.
He noted that the UN will continue to encourage the two leaders towards a solution.
STRONG CRITICISM FROM PRIME MINISTER
During his speech made in the Assembly, Leader of the National Unity Party and the Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu expressed his party's and government's views about Cyprus problem.
Eroglu added that although the most peaceful people of the world are at the table, they could not solve Cyprus problem and hope for a solution has decreased.
Adding that President Mehmet Ali Talat applies a very flexible policy at the table but they could not reach a solution, Eroglu indicated that negotiations will be realized at homes and asked `what is the difference between the building which was allocated for negotiations and homes?'
`A viable agreement should be reached' said Eroglu and stressed that an agreement should be reached by taking into consideration the realities experienced before and after 1974.
Expressing that as the National Unity Party they have been criticized but any party in power could not solve the Cyprus Problem; Eroglu said that an agreement shall be reached only under the leadership of the National Unity Party (UBP).
Moreover, Eroglu underlined that if a solution is not reached, Turkish Cypriot people will not be hopeless because Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus exists. EU is unfair and their views for the Turkish Cypriot people have not changed, foreign interventions in the last days have been intensified, Eroglu added.
Criticizing the President Mehmet Ali Talat, Eroglu said that they supported the President Talat not to make whatever he wants as the negotiator and behave in the direction of his party but to behave in the direction of the demands of the TRNC people.
Eroglu also criticized the President Talat for not giving any information before going to Ankara.
