ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan telephoned Silvio Berlusconi and wished the quick recovery of his Italian counterpart who was smashed in the face Sunday by a man wielding a model cathedral.
Erdogan expressed his "profound sadness" over the incident saying that "he and his family extended wishes of quick recovery."
A summit meeting between Erdogan and Berlusconi was called off after doctors realized that the Italian premier's condition was more serious than originally thought.
Berlusconi suffered a broken nose, two fractured teeth and a lacerated lip from the attack.
