ANKARA - President Abdullah Gul said everybody should respect Constitutional Court's decision to shut down Democratic Society Party (DTP).

Commenting on the court decision for dissolution of DTP, Gul said, "I wish party executives would show the necessary care to protect parties. But the provisions of the constitution and the laws are clear. What can the court do?"

Gul, who is on an official trip to Montengero, spoke to reporters Saturday on the court decision for dissolution of DTP and said the Constitutional Court gave the decision unanimously.

"As long as a party cites a terrorist organization as the reason for its existence, what can the court do," said Gul.

Gul said Turkey embraced pluralism and desired to raise its democratic standards. He said the multi-party system meant representation of different opinions in different parties, noting however that this did not mean advocating separation.
