Turkish Premier Erdogan was welcomed by Mexican Head of State Felipe Calderon who gave a speech at the greeting ceremony, expressing his pleasure to host Mr. Erdogan.
Calderon said that his country works actively to receive support of developing countries in fighting international organized crimes and also to take effective measures against the climate change. He stated that Mexico demanded a green fund or global fund against the climate change, which must be backed in the Copenhagen Summit.
He went on to say that the two countries are in close relations in multilateral international platforms like G20 and UN Security Council.
Naming the goal as realizing Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's motto "Peace at home Peace in the world", the Mexican President said that distances are meaningless when peoples love and appreciate each other.
Beginning his speech by expressing his content in visiting Mexico, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan stated that what matters is the sympathy in the hearts of peoples, and not the distances.
Conveying regards from President Abdullah Gül, Erdogan invited Mexican President Calderon to Turkey.
Premier Erdogan said further that Turkey and Mexico are both members of G20 while Mexico comes 13th and Turkey 17th among the world's biggest economies.
He also expressed his belief in joint contributions into the world peace, noting that Turkey is ready to share its experience with Mexico in organized crimes.
Touching upon the climate issue, Erdogan said that the Copenhagen Summit will be a breaking point and that they have to take these steps to reach a healthier and cleaner world as being a party to the Kyoto Protocol.
In his meeting with Calderon, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan underlined the friendship between Turkey and Mexico and expressed Turkey's desire to improve relations with Latin America and the Carribean. Erdogan pointed to the $450 million trade volume between Turkey and Mexico and said this figure should be much higher between countries who are 13th and 17th biggest economies of the world.
Prime Minister Erdogan said "Both countries should encourage the businessmen. It is important that we should encourage investments and prevent double taxation. Another important issue is easing visa procedures for businessmen."
Prime Minister Erdogan invited Mexican President Calderon to Turkey to strike some economic agrements and President Calderon invited Prime Minister Erdogan to next year's celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of Mexico's independence.
Later on, Prime Minister Erdogan delivered a speech at the Diplomacy Academy of Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Also, Erdogan attended a reception given by Turkish Embassy in Mexico.
