ISTANBUL, Dec 8 (AFP) - Turkish police on Wednesday said they had seized more than a half a tonne of heroin worth some seven million dollars (5.3 million euros), arresting 10 people in two raids.
In the port city of Mersin officials hauled away 488 kilos (1,075 pounds) of the drug, while a seizure of 78 kilos was made in Istanbul.
Three of those arrested in the swoop on the drug bound for western Europe were foreigners, officials said. They did not say when the arrests and seizure took place.
A great deal of heroin, cocaine and other drugs transit through Turkey as they are trafficked from Asia to Europe.
