ANKARA, Dec 7 (AFP) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is to travel to Brussels on Friday for talks on his country's bid to join the European Union, Erdogan said on Tuesday.
The Turkish leader will be meeting Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, whose country currently chairs EU institutions. Erdogan announced the visit during a meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party.
Original plans had called for Erdogan to meet Balkenende in The Hague, but the venue was changed because The Netherlands is currently in mourning for the death of Prince Bernhard, the father of Queen Beatrix, Turkish media said.
