OTTAWA, Dec 6 (AFP) - Canada will send up to 500 observers to oversee the new presidential runoff election in Ukraine on December 26, Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew said Monday.
The Canadian observers will be under the auspices of the pan-European Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Canada's announcement comes as the OSCE was considering doubling the number of its international monitors for Ukraine's repeat presidential election amid calls for the transatlantic, pan-European organization to go all-out to help.
Ukraine's Supreme Court set the date for the new runoff election after ruling that the November 21 runoff vote was tainted with fraud.
