Death toll in China landslide rises to 34

BEIJING, Dec 6 (AFP) - The death toll from a landslide in southwest China's Guizhou Province rose to 34 Monday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
Ten people were still missing after the disaster, which occurred early Friday, it said.
Cold air from the north has lowered the temperature to near freezing, Xinhua said, adding that more than 340 people whose homes were destroyed by the landslide had moved into tents in safe places.
Emergency supplies, including quilts, clothes, rice and medicine have been distributed to survivors, Xinhua quoted a county official as saying.
The landslide is the latest in a series of deadly accidents to hit China in the past six weeks. All have been linked to poor safety in China's mining industry, considered the most dangerous in the world.
A total of 314 miners were killed in two major gas explosions in the period, including 166 last Sunday in Shaanxi province.
