Speaking at the Planning and Budgeting Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu rebuffed recent criticisms about Turkey's foreign policy and said "Turkey is not a country with a single axis, it does not have such geography. Those who feed criticisms about axis are in fact trying to focus us on a single direction, to crisis and to limit our horizons. Turkey will be interested in everything that is going on around itself. This is not an option, but an obligation. We are going to gaze towards Asia too, but will not give up our eventual goal of European Union membership."
Taking up the Cyprus issue, Davutoglu said Turkey is not making any concessions, but added "if we do not take steps in foreign policy, then we will start losing."
Foreign Minister Davutoglu also spoke about Iran's nuclear efforts. Davutoglu said, "We do not want military tension in our region. It is every country's right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful ends. Turkey opposes nuclear weapons in every corner of the world."
