THESSALONIKI (AA) - The General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies (ABNA) was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on Saturday.
High-level officials of the member agencies joined the general assembly hosted by Macedonian Press Agency (MPA).
Deputy Director General Mrs. Elvan Baransel represented the Anadolu Agency (A.A) at the meeting.
MPA Director General Spiros Kouzunopoulos was re-elected as the Secretary General of ABNA during the meeting.
Participants decided to decorate journalists with annual awards for contributing to development of cooperation, peace and security in the region with their news reports.
The participants also decided to set up a joint internal portal, and activate it in spring.
ABNA, established ten years ago with the initiatives of MPA, is working to enhance cooperation among the Balkan countries, and to develop pluralism and democracy in reporting.
Greek Athens News Agency (ANA), Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), Romanian news agency Rompress, Serbia-Montenegro's news agency Tanjug, and Macedonia's Macedonian Information Agency (MIA) are the members of ABNA, as well as Anadolu Agency and MPA.
Bosnia-Herzegovina's and Slovenia's news agencies attended the meeting as observers.
