ISTANBUL - German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said Turkey's accession to the EU would stabilize world's most delicate region and would be a source of motivation for neighbouring countries.
Speaking at a conference organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Association at Bilgi University in Istanbul, Wieczorek-Zeul extended support to Turkey's EU bid and said Europe and Turkey would be stronger together. She said 22 out of 27 EU member states were supporting Turkey's accession to the EU.
she pointed out that accession criteria applied to all candidates alike and these should not be misinterpreted.
Wieczorek-Zeul said EU and Turkey should implement common policies for development as an expression of common interests and values.
