Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko says his wife and three children cannot safely remain in Kyiv, with his children kept from school ahead of a 26 December re-run election following widespread street protests.

Speaking from his dacha outside the capital, Yushchenko vowed to expose the full story behind a suspected poisoning by allies of outgoing President Leonid Kuchma. His face remains visibly disfigured from a mysterious illness that struck during the campaign. He holds both Ukrainian and US citizenship.
