Overseas swimmers shine as US Open swimming concludes

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Dec 4 (AFP) - Swimmers from overseas won all but two of the individual titles on offer Saturday as the US Open championships long course swimming meeting concluded.
Costa Rican Olympian Claudia Poll won the women's 100m free, while Canadian Brittany Reimer triumphed in the 800m freestyle, Briton Jessica Dickons won the 200m fly and Germany's Vipa Bernhardt captured the 200m breast to complete an overseas sweep of the women's individual event.
Olympian Vladislav Polyakov of Kazakhstan won the men's 200m breaststroke, while Venezuelan Ricardo Monasterio captured the 1500m free, leaving just the men's 100m free and 200m butterfly to home-grown talent, Nick Brunelli in the sprint free and Daniel Madwed in the fly.
Brunelli, claimed his third title of the three-day meet, despite a mishap with his goggles, which filled with water at the start.
"It might have helped me a little bit and got my adrenaline going, but I felt like I was swimming with blinders on," said Brunelli, who also won the mens 50m and 200m free here.
