TEHRAN - Early results elevated hardline Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a sizable lead over his rivals in presidential elections Friday, the semi-official Mehr News Agency reported.
With a little over 47 percent of the ballots counted, Ahmadinejad had 67.7 percent of the vote, Mehr reported, citing the Iranian Interior Ministry election headquarters.
Mehr said Ahmadinejad's chief opponent, reformist candidate Mir Hossein Moussavi, had 30.34 percent of the votes. Both candidates, however, were claiming victory.
