Turkish Embassy In Islamabad Becomes Nato Contact Point In Pakistan

ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Burak Ozugergin said on Thursday that Turkey's Embassy in Islamabad became the NATO Contact Point in Pakistan on May 15, 2009.

Ozugergin, speaking at a weekly news conference, said Turkish embassy would act as the NATO contact point noting that a separate representation for matters related to NATO would not be established in the embassy.

Ozugergin said Turkey attached a high importance to improvement of relations between NATO and Pakistan, "establishment of a political dialogue and improvement of mutual areas of cooperation are very important. NATO Secretary General's visit to Pakistan last January was very important in this respect," he added.

NATO Contact Point in Pakistan will be operating as a channel for disseminating information and facilitating NATO programs while stressing the importance of improving bilateral relations within the framework of an action plan.
