BRUSSELS Sweden, the country which will assume the EU term presidency in July, will work towards opening the energy chapter to negotiations with EU candidate Turkey.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said that "Europe talks about energy to a large extent and this issue relates to Turkey very much. It would be interesting to open the energy chapter to negotiations with Turkey".
It would be wise for everyone to open the energy chapter to negotiations with Turkey, Reinfeldt said.
Due to differing viewpoints in the EU, it is not possible to say whether Sweden could be successful in promoting negotiations with Turkey, Reinfeldt also said.
