Democratic Movements Cannot Rise Where Terrorism Exists, Turkish President

DUSHANBE/ANKARA - Turkey's president said on Saturday that it would be difficult to raise the standard of democratic movements where there was violence, terrorism and bloodshed.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul returned to Turkey on Saturday after holding a series of talks in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Replying to questions on terrorism on his way from the Tajik capital of Dushanbe to Ankara, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that efforts could continue if everybody condemned terrorism and stood against it as a whole.

Commenting on the negotiations between Turkey and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well, Gul said that Turkish economy officials carried out the talks successfully.

"Officials will assess the matter in a detailed way. After all, IMF's aid is not a donation. There should be no pressure," Gul said.
