Turkish President Says No Gvt Could Act Against National Interests

DUSHANBE/ANKARA - The Turkish president said on Saturday that none of the governments could act against national interests of Turkey.
Turkey's President Abdullah Gul said that Turkish governments could not act against national interests of Turkey.

"In political sense, no government or no parliament can act against Turkey's national interests," Gul told reporters on route from the Tajik capital of Dushanbe to Turkey.

Gul said that clearing mines across Turkish-Syrian border was a technical issue.

"These lands should not be like this for 10-20 more years, and they should be used in Turkish economy," he said when commenting on a draft law on clearing the land mines.

On Turkish-European Union (EU) relations, Gul said that he believed the parliament could pass some significant laws before its recess, which could have a positive impact on the progress report.
