Julia Roberts gave birth to twins early on Sunday, delivering a boy and a girl about a month ahead of a January due date. The actress and her husband, cameraman Danny Moder, named the babies Phinnaeus Walter Moder and Hazel Patricia Moder.
People magazine editor Jess Cagle said the 37-year-old star was resting, in good spirits, and hoping to return home within days. The pregnancy had been rocky. Roberts entered the hospital on 23 October with early contractions and spent much of the following weeks on bed rest, moving between the hospital and her Los Angeles home.
The timing came just before two of her films reached theaters. The drama "Closer," opposite Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Clive Owen, was set to open that week, and the caper sequel "Ocean's Twelve" was due in North American cinemas on 10 December.
Roberts won the best actress Oscar for "Erin Brockovich" in 2000 and became a global name with "Pretty Woman" a decade earlier. She married Moder in New Mexico in July 2002.
Where it stands now. Roberts and Moder went on to have a third child, son Henry, in 2007, and the couple remained married.
