Muslim and Christian leaders call for protection of Holy Land sites

AMMAN, Nov 25 (AFP) - Muslim and Christian religious leaders meeting in the Jordanian capital called Thursday for increased solidarity in the face of Israeli "attacks" on religious sites in the Holy Land.
Following a three-day congress, delegates expressed "the necessity of reinforcing Islamic-Christian solidarity by bringing together Palestinian church representatives and Muslim delegations seeking to publicise the Palestinian cause and the protection of holy sites in Palestine."
They also called for "Islamic-Christian dialogue in order to face together repeated Israeli attacks on the population and holy sites".
The congress was organised by the Islamic Organisation for Education, Science and Culture, based in Rabat, and set up by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
Last month, an Israeli general warned that Jerusalem's Temple Mount, which also houses the Al-Aqsa mosque, the third most holy site in Islam, could be the target of Jewish extremists.
