Anti-war Demonstration In Front Of U.S. Embassy In Ankara

ANKARA (AA) - Representatives of several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) held a demonstration in front of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara on Wednesday to protest recent developments in Iraq.
     Speaking on behalf of the group, Ahmet Aksu, chairman of the Labor Union of Civil Servants (Memur-Sen), defended, ''the United States has been committing massacres throughout Iraq, especially in the city of Fallujah. The United States launched on operation to make Iraq free. However, U.S. soldiers massacred even civilians in mosques. Iraq and Fallujah have turned into an open museum of massacre.''
     ''As representatives of NGOs, we strongly condemn merciless and inhuman acts of the United States in Iraq. We cannot understand why international community is still silent against all those acts of violence. Greater Middle East Initiative lays behind the U.S. intervention in Iraq. We call on everyone to react to such inhuman acts,'' he added.
     Security forces took tight measures around the embassy building. Demonstrators later dispersed peacefully.
