ANTALYA/BELEK (AA) - The Turkish Parliament (TBMM) Speaker Bulent Arinc has stated today that the world has witnessed great sadness and problems in recent years. ''International laws have been violated in Falluja, Iraq and the city has become a major concern for the international community,'' said Arinc.
The 24th General Council Meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly (KEIPA) has begun at the Atlantis Hotel in Belek, Antalya. Delivering the opening speech of the meeting, Arinc told that organizations like the KEIPA do not solely have the goal of promoting economic ties. ''KEIPA and other similar organizations provide opportunities for better understanding among peoples and contribute to regional peace,'' expressed Arinc.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer issued a message on the occasion of the KEIPA meeting saying that he wishes fraternal ties and commercial activities between Black Sea nations to develop further. ''The Black Sea Economic Cooperation region extends from western Europe to China. This region is at the heart of Eurasia. Dialog among parliamentarians of this region is vital for a better future. I expect the 24th General Council Meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly to significantly contribute to the friendship and solidarity present among our countries,'' remarked Sezer.
