BEIJING (AA) - Ankara Police Chief Ercument Yilmaz stated on Wednesday that terrorism does not have a single religion or nationality.
Participating in a second-day session of a Chinese seminar titled ''cooperation in fight against international terrorism and cross-border crimes and cooperation for public security,'' Yilmaz said that it is improper to call any terrorism as 'Islamic terrorism.'
''We should not name any terrorist activity as an Islamic terrorist activity. Islam means peace and love for all,'' told Yilmaz.
Yilmaz pointed out that the world must have a common definition for terrorist activities that are separatist and religion influenced.
''Activities based on radical ideologies and violence should be termed as terrorist. To fight against all forms of terrorism, the world must show cooperation. Turkey is ready to provide such a cooperation. All financial sources feeding terrorist organizations must be stopped,'' he said.
At the end of the seminar, representatives from Turkey, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed a joint protocol to develop international cooperation in fighting against terrorism.
''The Chinese security establishment consulted with Turkish police in preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games,'' stated Yilmaz. ''The Turkish security forces have a long experience in the fight against terrorists. As Turkey, we are ready to help all nations in fighting against terrorism.''
Meanwhile, Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah said that decisions to prevent violent acts at football games were taken before the recent killing of a Besiktas fan. ''The practical application of those decisions depend on the Football Federation of Turkey,'' remarked Cerrah.
Cerrah informed the A.A that the number of tickets sold must be exactly equal to the number of seats available. ''The tickets must go on sale by Biletix and names of ticket purchasers must be recorded for future use, if necessary.''
