ANTALYA (AA) - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc has stated that the development of ties among Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) members is not only important for the members but also for the region and its future.
Arinc who also serves as the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly (BSECPA) Term President, hosted a lunch on Tuesday in honor of the participants at the 24th BSECPA General Council Meeting.
''Meetings as this one help to promote dialogue among BSEC members,'' said Arinc.
''Political, economic and cultural ties among BSEC members are developing every day. However, there is still a lot we must do to make use of the potential possible. The determination we have shown till today is a good sign that we will overcome challenges,'' told Arinc.
According to Arinc, peace and stability in the BSEC region will benefit both members and Europe in general. ''I am confident that the BSEC countries are aware of their historical responsibilities and will continue to make efforts for the development of better relations,'' expressed Arinc.
''The BSEC region is not merely important for having large amounts of oil and natural gas resources. This region connects the east to the west and is the center of Eurasia. Our region is a bridge whereby energy resources of the Caspian Sea and Central Asia pass through,'' remarked Arinc.
''We pay high attention to make democratic initiatives in our region permanent. We will contribute to the wealth and welfare of our peoples with our parliamentary democratic systems. As a region where civilizations meet, races mix and values are shared, the Black Sea is gaining more importance.''
