ANKARA- Two gunmen took 12 people hostage during an attempted bank robbery in western Turkey on Wednesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The masked gunmen stormed a branch of the state-owned Vakifbank in the Aegean tourist resort of Kusadasi in Aydin province, and held the people inside the bank hostage, according to the report.
The armed men have released three women, said Anatolia, adding that police have given the bank robbers a mobile phone number and asked them to call for negotiations.
About 30 policemen were stationed around the Vakifbank branch and officials were calling on the gunmen, using a megaphone, not to harm the abductees, said the report.
