EDIRNE - Lecturers of Science-Literature Faculty in Trakya University in the northwestern province of Edirne discovered a new species.
Assistant Prof. Belgin Camur Elipek from Biology Department of the faculty told A.A on Wednesday that they discovered a species in Pozanti town of the southern province of Adana, and named it as "Niphargus Kirgizi".
Elipek said that they discovered the species by coincidence in a plateau where groundwater sprang out.
Elipek added that the species which they discovered was not known in the world.
She said that "Niphargus Kirgizi" was living only under the ground and it did not have eyes. She said that the new species was two centimeters.
Elipek said that they wrote an article about "Niphargus Kirgizi", adding that the article was published in German science magazine Zoologischer Anzeiger, and "Niphargus Kirgizi" was accepted as a new species.
