MAINZ, Germany (AFP) - Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher was named German sportsman of the century following a survey conducted by televison channel ZDF.
The 100,000 participants chose the 35-year-old Ferrari driver, who lifted his seventh Formula One crown this season underlining his domination of the sport.
Canoeing great Birgit Fischer was second to Schumacher with seven-time Wimbledon champion Steffi Graf, 35, down in third.
West Germany's 1974 World Cup winner Franz Beckenbauer was fourth with other footballing icons Gerd Muller and Oliver Kahn in the top ten.
