PRAGUE, Nov 19 (AFP) - One man died Friday in the Czech Republic as wintry storms battered the country, fire brigade officials said.
The 27-year-old was killed instantly after he was crushed when the gable of his house collapsed as he was working on it in Holasice, near Brno in the east of the Czech Republic, fire service spokesman Jaroslav Haid said.
Violent storms caused serious damage in the region while road and rail services were seriously affected as winds reached speeds of up to 112 kilometres (70 miles) an hour. Hundreds of trees were uprooted.
The Czech-German border at Cinovec/Altenburg was closed for several hours Friday due to heavy snowfalls, police said.
